30th November - Teng Tools Tarmac Series is over for another year and the Annual Prizegiving was held. After Daryl not being able to complete the final round at the Pirongia Hillclimb because of an extensive engine rebuild. Daryl still finished the series very well and attained one of his goals for the year which was a Top 3 Result in the Tarmac Series. After two outright round wins and a miss timed event at Taupo Daryl managed to pick up 3rd Overall and 2nd in Class for the Series. A great effort after the problems endured with the car that will be fixed and see the Pulsar back and faster than ever for 2009.

16th November - It’s been a while since the last karting update.  Mainly cause Jase is slack at writing the reports, but also because there wasn’t much to write from the indifferent day we had last time out at the October club day.  We’ve recently made some pretty significant changes to both the front and rear end on the kart, and whilst the team was convinced it’d be faster, it didn’t suit the driver at all and things were pretty frustrating.

Either way, the morning of the 15th of November Scott and Jase headed out to Hamilton Kart Club for the continuation of the Kartsport Academy day that had been rained off earlier in the year.  Both of the guys really felt they got a lot out of this course and would highly recommend it to anyone considering taking part.  With the help of the expert coaches Jason managed to fine tune his technique to better suit the new set-up and get a better grasp of the track.

Sunday, race day for Hamilton’s November club day.  Overcast early but dry – an unusual change from recent club days – and our first meeting since Kartsport decided to ban tyre treatment.  The team was a little down on our usual numbers with just Jase and Daryl making the trek to the track.  Scott was a little under the weather after a big night at a 21st the night before and wasn’t heard from till mid afternoon, and dad was out in the middle of the Hauraki Gulf having a great time on Uncle Baz’s boat – talk about commitment fellas.

Unfortunately the Yamaha Heavy field only numbered 5 entries, but after starting race one from pole we secured our first race win.  It was a good battle between us and Brendon, and this was to set the trend for the day.  The other trend was that these quicker two in the Yamaha Heavy class would spend much of the day getting tangled up with slower drivers in the Yamaha Light class, who although slower in overall lap time their 15+ kilo weight advantage makes them awfully hard to pass with the way they accelerate away on the straights.

The second, third and fourth heats were all run very similarly to the first, but unfortunately from our side the result the other way round.  Jason and Brendon had some great battles at the front, and continued being bauked by slower karts, but both drivers’ were clearly enjoying their racing and both kept it clean all day.

The final race was the first time since the first heat that both were on the front row side by side and Brendon beat Jason into turn one, and both worked their way through traffic for the first 8-10 laps before Jason had a couple of looks and started really heaping the pressure on.  Daryl’s set-up was timed to come in from lap 8 onwards, and to be fair it hadn’t been too bad for the first half of the race either.  Jason made his move with about three laps to go with a nicely judged aggressive move into the clubhouse hairpin and Brendon had no answer.  Jase survived the remaining laps and a few scares from the ever wayward back markers to finish a good day with a nicely driven race win.

Overall a great day for the team, a nice day once the sun came out, some great racing in good spirits.  And best of all a fair bit of fun, which after all is what we’re here for in the first place.

9th November - This weekend saw a mixture of events for the MSB Motorsport Team. With the last round of the Teng Tools Tarmac Series on Daryl should have been there battling for the lead but with the engine having longer delays than expected Daryl was "absolutely gutted" and resigned to the fact that he was only going to be a spectator. So the result of the Series for Daryl was up in the air with his major competitors all running. However he did still feel the need to show up to the event and support all the other competitors in their days racing. However on a happier not Scott received the new Mazda 323 back from Te Rapa Automotive fully tuned and checked, and spent the rest of the weekend doing the small finishing touches before hitting a track near you soon.

20th September -         MSB MOTORSPORT ANNOUNCEMENT

As of today Scotty has made the two vehicle MSB Motorsport stable even bigger. With the recent purchase of a Mazda 323 Circuit Car. Hence giving the team greater exposure over more events. Also seeing the youngest of the MSB Motorsport Driving Talent get behind the wheel more often and showing the "Old Fellas" in the team his skills. Scotty is excited about the purchase and the car will be debuted by the MSB Motorsport Team this side of Christmas with any luck. Look out for Scott and the new addition to the team at a track soon!!!

14th September - The MSB Motorsport Nissan Pulsar was back on track in the 4th Round of the Teng Tools Series at Taupo after a long time in the workshop getting a good tune up and fix. It was a good weekend with the whole MSB Motorsport Team staying down in Taupo the night. Daryl was keen for a good days result, but it just wasn't his day. We were trying some new tyres which took a while to dial in, once in the right zone they were good. However the team then had an overheating issue which ended in a blown head gasket by the end of the day and another trip back to the workshop before the last round. Just to top off the day the results posted seem to not be as accurate as the MSB Motorsport Team had thought with Daryl getting credited with a fastest lap of 1 minute 24.8 seconds where the rest of the team had stopped the stop watch in Daryl's self proclaimed "slower session" with a low 1 minute 23 second lap.

With this result it gave Daryl 17th Overall out of 74 competitors and 7th in class. However the indifference in times have left Daryl chasing 2nd Overall in the Teng Tools Series rather than battling for the lead. Oh well that's motorsport and the team is now looking to the next event. For the Nissan Pulsar it is the Pirongia Hillclimb and for Jason's Kart the next Hamilton Kart Club Day.

31st August - The kart returned to the track for the first time in a while – with Jason’s rugby injuries (torn ligaments in ankle) having healed enough to allow him to get back behind the wheel.  In the past we’ve had fairly indifferent results after a long lay off but this time we were presently surprised.  Jason only took about halfway through the first race to get back into the swing of things and was competitive all day.

The overall result of 6th out of 12 may sound average compared to some of the recent success the team has enjoyed but considering the presence of a total of 6 A-Rated drivers for the day, we were all pretty happy.  Once again we lowered our personal best lap time as the team continue to learn how to tweak the kart to best suit track and driver.

In the end we were still a few tenths of a lap slower than the front runners, but every time we race with this calibre of competition we close that gap up a little more.

Definitely promising signs for the team and best of all we’re still having a heck of a lot of fun doing it!

17th August - With great result by the team at Round 2 of the Teng Tools Tarmac Series hopes were high for another good one here at the Hiwi Rd Bentsprint, all the MSB Motorsport Team were back to health and all there with Daryl, Scott, Jason and Graeme. Also there were the lingering memories of the crash with the MSB Motorsport Mazda 323 at Hiwi Rd last year. The whole day it was threatening to rain but didn't until the 3rd and last run. 47 Competitors in total and a short course than last year was going to make it a lot closer throughout. Daryl set down some extremely quick times in the 1st and 2nd runs but couldn't go any quicker in the 3rd (wet) run. Daryl's time of 54.31 seconds was the quickest of the day and gave the MSB Motorsport Team it's second 1st OVERALL result and inched them closer to the top of the standings in the Overall Teng Tools Tarmac Series. Another great result for the team and a credit to all their hard work, we are all looking forward to the 4th Round at Taupo Raceway on the 14th of September now.

10th August - Daryl had another event for the MSB Motorsport Nissan Pulsar in his claim to achieve a Top 3 Result in Hamilton Car Club Points. The event was a Grass Autocross and being down on team members because of illness and injury the team had a more experienced look to it with Daryl, Graeme Corbett and Clyde Webster, the fathers helping out the boy. It was an interesting format with cumulative timing so one mistake could easily send you tumbling down the times. Daryl took it carefully in the damp first run and slowly worked into his work during the day eventually finishing 3rd Overall out of 35 and 2nd in Class, another great result given the MSB Motorsport Team was just there to collect some points and only a week away from the 3rd Round of Teng Tools Tarmac Series at Hiwi Rd.

2nd August - The MSB Motorsport Team said farewell to another close friend as the MSB Motorsport Mazda 323 was sold to its new owners in Wellington. This car bought the team some great success and awesome experiences. I hope the Mazda brings the new owners just as much fun and it will be sadly missed out of the MSB Motorsport Shed, but now time to concerntrate 100% of our efforts of what we have in front of us with Teng Tools Tarmac Series and Hamilton Car Club Points with the Pulsar and Club Champs and more track meeting for the Azzurro Kart. Today ended one chapter for the MSB Motorsport Team but opened up some many more for the boys as well.

20th July - Scott and Daryl were the make up of the MSB Motorsport Team to head to Pukekohe Track for Dual Sprints as the rest of the team were either on other duties or Annual Leave. 64 cars showed up for the Dual Sprints and it was a very competitive and high class field. Track was very damp during the day and constantly changing with some grids getting slightly better conditions than others. Daryl was in one of the lucky grids with a semi dry track and set a fastest lap time of 1 minute 12.12 secs. This ended up being one of the quickest times of the day and an amazing 2nd Overall only .06 seconds behind 1st Overall. And 1st 4WD car home. A great result for the MSB Motorsport Team and Daryl in the Nissan Pulsar. We knew the lil yellow girl would be quick be I don't think even Daryl thought that it would be this quick and competitive in a track race meeting. Two great weeks in a row!! Next Event for Daryl and the MSB Motorsport Pulsar is the Hiwi Rd Bentsprint outside Cambridge on the 17th August.

13th July - The team headed off to the second round of the Teng Tools Tarmac Series which was an Autocross and still meant to favour the smaller more nimble cars. Daryl was hopeful of a good result and to catch up to the top guys. After the first run the course was quick and Daryl set the 2nd quickest time but there was a miss with the engine, and it was struggling to clear itself. After the 2nd and 3rd runs Daryl was bumped down to 6th Overall and only one run to go. After going flying over the finish then flying over the judder bar also Daryl was happy and thought it was quick but how quick. No one had gone under 49 seconds, well not until now Daryl set down a 48.69 seconds now 8/19ths ahead of 2nd and claiming the 1ST OVERALL AUTOCROSS 2008 for the MSB Motorsport Team. A great result for the whole team and boosted us to 3rd Overall in the Series as well. A great reward for all the teams hard work over those busy months. Thanks to the whole MSB Motorsport Team and all its supporters.

29th June - The lads loaded up and headed off for a full days racing for the final round of the club points series at Hamilton Kart Club.  We'd got some nice prizes for third in the club class series last year but this year's step up and missing a round had eliminated any chance we had of a place.  The day dawned wet but we headed to the track regardless, and found a very small field of half a dozen karts - headed by Auckland's Brendon Smith.

The tuning run in the rain was fairly non-eventful and the first heat was an over-conservative third place finish in a kart that was a bit too loose.  However the rain had stopped and the track beginning to try meant the slicks would be out for the remainder of the day.

Heat two realistically should have been our first win but some bone headed driving by Jase left us a very close second.

Heat three Jase put together arguably one of his best drives in a kart to keep pace with Smith and finish a well polished second with the kart showing some genuine speed.  Heat four was more of the same although the heavy cold Jase had been carrying for a week was starting to take a toll and he drifted off mid race to finish a distant second.

This left us second equal on points going into the final and an outside front row start.  The usual first corner bottleneck saw us get a serve in the rear wheel and off on the grass.  Jase firstly kept it off the bags and then regained the track dead last, as the red mist came down Jase drove the wheels off the kart.  Despite the cold damp conditions and green track we significantly lowered our PB for Hamilton.  He passed cars effectively and late in the race buried the heat two demons with a nice pass to take second in the race and also second overall for the day.

Our first 2nd overall in any class and easily our best result in heavies, even considering the small field size today we had genuine pace.  It looks like the team has made another leap forward with the kart but the real proof will be at the next meeting to see if we can continue this form.

22nd June - Graeme, Scott and Daryl took the MSB Motorsport Nissan Pulsar down to Taupo for a very relaxed Track Day. Unfortunately the weather didn't play ball and was very wet and cold all day, the track didn't even look like drying all day either. However a good chance for Daryl to get behind the wheel and learn again what this Monster does in tricky conditions. It was a great day with trying two different sets of tyres and just generally getting use to the car again. The team also had some sponsors turn up and Daryl took them for a spin around the track along with some friends and family and they all loved it. So all in all a valuable day for the team and some very positive feedback about the new car. Bring on Round 2 of the Teng Tools Tarmac Series.

15th June - The MSB Motorsport Team was again split across the country getting maximum exposure for the team with Daryl and Scott in Hamilton running the Nissan Pulsar at the Tarmac Series and Jason and Graeme in Te Puke running the Azzuro Kart.

Nissan Pulsar - Daryl and Scott were running the MSB Motorsport Nissan Pulsar for the first time after the rollover at Rotorua at the first round of the new Teng Tools Tarmac Series. It is a Motokahna around the Wintec Venue in Hamilton. Very tight and short and not suited to 4WD's but the aim of the day for Daryl was to keep it tidy and tight and get use to the Pulsar again. A great result of 3rd in Class and 11th Overall out of 60. A very good day, promising to see the MSB Motorsport Pulsar running again with no issues.

25th May - With both the Mazda 323 and the Kart running today the MSB Motorsport Team were split across the Waikato and here is how we went.

Mazda 323 - Daryl and Scott were off to just outside Cambridge for the Kairangi Rd Bentsprint and another round of Hamilton Car Club Points. The day was awesome and dry and this was to be a tricky and fast piece of road. With the course shortened slightly from last year it was going to make it exciting. Three timed runs and a practice was the order of the day and all started off well. After practice and getting started off with the first timed runs to confidence rose and the accidents soon followed with both a Fiat Uno and Honda Civic going off the road and picking up moderate damage. However for Daryl being back in the race car and pushing the boundaries each time he was getting better and dropping times. It started off with a 2m41.1 seconds and by the end of the day he was down to 2m35.0 seconds and achieving an 11th Overall and 5th in Class. A solid result in possibly the last meeting for the Mazda with only 4 weeks before the MSB Motorsport Nissan Pulsar should be on track.

Kart - Club day downgraded to a fun day so numbers were very light, most of the half a dozen Yamaha Heavies that showed up were relatively new to karting and we just had fun, getting Jason's head back into race mode and passing a few karts before
slowing down and letting them back through in order to pass them again. Due to the event's fun day status there were no results or official timing, and with problems with our Alfano computer we weren't able to determine our own lap times so it will be interesting to see whether how good the kart feels translates to quick lap times in a competitive field.

25th April - MSB Motorsport Re-build Update. The team spent most of Anzac Day repairing and cutting the old Rollcage out of the Nissan GTi-R. Modifying some new panels for the car. Thanks to the awesome work done by Dane and Barry at Bryant Rd Panel and Motors on repairing the dents and bent chassis and replacing the crumpled roof. The team got the car prepared to go to Craig Howser for the fabrication of a new rollcage. It will take a couple of weeks then the team will get into get the Nissan ready for painting and signwriting.

6th April - With an early start to this weeks event Daryl, Scott and Jason hit the road about 7.20 am and were followed at Management Hours of mid morning to complete the MSB Motorsport Team for the day. Daryl was running the MSB Motorsport Mazda 323 in another round of the Hamilton Car Club Point Series in a tarmac hillclimb. After a promising result Daryl was confident and hoping to string together some good performances. Format for the day was one practice run and four timed runs. Daryl took it easy on the practice run getting a good look at the course. Then came time to set some real times. First run went well pushing hard and finding a couple of tricky corners. The second run was even better, nice and smooth and pushing hard through all the turns setting down 58.96 seconds. Third run Daryl made a small mistake running wide on one of the corners and costing him half a second. Trying to get everything perfect for the last run and adjusting the brakes so he could go deeper into turns, all was looking promising. On the start line revs went up and launched off line through the rev range and went to grab 2nd gear and clutch wasn't in far enough so crunched the gear change and the red mist set in from there on. Fast but not quite as good as the 2nd run. Finish for the day was 6th Overall out of 30 and 3rd in class. A good day for the team and now back to repairing the Nissan Pulsar and getting the kart ready for its next meeting.

30th March - The MSB Motorsport team of Daryl, Scott and Jason headed out to the Ruapuke Road Bentsprint as part of the Hamilton Car Club Points with Daryl running the MSB Motorsport Mazda 323 after rolling the Nissan Pulsar a few weeks earlier. Thankfully the whether was fine but Daryl was nervous jumping into the car at practice after the rollover. Practice had a couple of hairy moments and was more about finding out what the course looked like. After getting the first run back in a race car out of his system, he seemed to settle down, relax and move back into his old driving style of trying to attack everything. First Run went well setting the 3rd quickest (2m14.66secs) which Daryl was stoked with and with spirits high and confidence pushing harder was now the key 2nd run bought the 2nd fastest time overall (2m10.68secs) and one final run to go. Pushing harder was going to be difficult but Daryl finally enjoying being back in the car and racing couldn't improve his time after a couple of small moments and clocked a 2m11.84secs. A great day 3rd Overall and 1st in Class and the car was still running and straight for next weekend. The MSB Motorsport Team had a great day and enjoyed the success of getting back out there in the car and taking their first class win in a 4WD Car.

9th March - The team headed out to Hamilton for the first round of this years points series and were hopeful of a reasonable result to kick things off.  We achieved third in this series in club class last year and received cash prizes so whilst we didn’t expect much in our first year with the big boys in heavies it’d still be nice to do well.  In the end it was quite an up and down day with some big highs and frustrating lows, sometimes all in the one race.  The tuning run was flagged after about two laps for a lack of flag marshals.  We drew the rear of grid start for the first heat and weren’t expecting too much, but Jase managed to spot a gap in the first corner crush and passed at least half a dozen cars in the first two corners, we faded a little as the race went on but were quietly happy with a mid pack result.  The next race had us off only a slightly better grid and we didn’t get quite the same start, a good battle with a couple of the guys throughout the race but we faded again towards the end.  Race three had us starting a little further up and we tried to follow some of the quicker guys and learn a bit, staying with the pack we managed another midfield finish.  The fourth race we were off pole and had high hopes of a good run, unfortunately we got tangled up at the start and in with the elbows out in turn 2 we got bumped around a bit and hooked wheels with another kart, dropping us both to the back.  This left us starting 6th or 7th out of 11 for the final and a relatively tame race after being balked at the start resulted in us loosing touch with the main bunch.  We circulated happily in the hot weather until two laps from home the low jet came out of the carb ending our race.  Overall our results were probably average but the day was enjoyable, the new seat making an obvious difference and we were able to achieve the fastest single lap time we ever have around Hamilton.  We had some good clean battles with a couple of the other guys too, which is what it’s all about for us.  Once again our downfall was probably consistency, which is what we’ll be working towards in our next meetings.

6th March - After a few days contemplating what to do with the wrecked Nissan Pulsar, and what to do with the previous Mazda which hasn't advertised to be sold yet. Daryl thought hard and long about it obviously still disappointed with what happened on the weekend, but the decision has been made to get back to work and get the Nissan Pulsar back on the track/road and pay back the sponsors (Bryant Rd Panel & Motors, Firestone Lincoln St, Kendall Performance and Signright) the only way we know how, with results and wins. That was the goal for the year and we are going to carry on that journey. Daryl is going to step back into the Mazda in an attempt to keep him sharp while the Nissan Pulsar is getting re-built. A long couple of months ahead but it couldn't be done without the team we have at MSB Motorsport and our sponsors. We will keep you all updated on how we are progressing.

2nd March - The MSB Motorsport team of Daryl, Scott and Jason made the trip down to Rotorua for the day with the Nissan in attempt to learn more about the new car and get familiar with it. It was another wet and damp day but the Rotorua Car Club ran a great Hillclimb up Mt Ngongotaha. First up was a practice run which with Scott back in the Co-drivers seat wrote down some notes. First run went well with a couple of slippery moments and setting the 5th best time. Second run with the hill drying and confidence increasing Daryl pushed harder and had a couple of edgy moments, the rest of the field was slowly getting quicker as well. The Third and final run was upon us and we tried to jump up the line a bit with more rain potentially coming. But this run did not go well. Pushing hard and foot to the floor Daryl came up on a tight left hander far to quick and braked to late with car not being on the part of the road he wanted. Daryl and Scott went through the fence and over the bank landing on the nose of the car then rolling on to the roof and twisting and landing back on its wheels. Both walked away fine, but the car is absolutely wrecked. The MSB Motorsport Team was absolutely gutted and the hard decisions will be made in the next couple of days.

24th February - First meeting out for the MSB Motorsport team and Daryl in the Nissan GTi - R. The car looked great and hopes were high but the weather wasn't coming to the party with drizzle and rain all day. It was also the first day that we tried with a co - driver and notes. First run started off cautious and getting use to the car, the decision was made to change the tires as they were a bit hard and not good in the wet. Second run went much better gaining in confidence and pushing it a little harder. The third and last run for the day bought more confidence and over confidence with Daryl sliding off the road and into a bank which halted progress and slowed us up for the rest of the run. However the day was a god lesson and went well with 6th in Class and 18th Overall. Not bad for first event for the car.

17th February – First meeting back for the kart for the new year, and Jason’s first run with the ability to draw grids, having got a license rating late last year, anticipation was high for this one.  Daryl was ‘holidaying’ in Australia on behalf of his work so it was up to the rest of the team to sort the setup for the brand new control tyres and Saturday testing was undertaken with us thinking we had a fair handle on things.

Come race day a few things went right and a few didn’t.  The day started with the scruitneers discovering Jason’s helmet invalid for competition use and went up and down a bit from there.  On track results were promising and the set-up and tuning improved markedly throughout the day.  I think our best heat finish was 5th out of twelve and we were sitting about 6th in overall points before a DNF in the last heat.  We also said goodbye to our gazebo today after a strong gust of wind retired it in a rather permanent way.

The next meeting is the first round of club points and we’re hopeful of a competitive result.  Watch this space.

2nd February - A busy weekend for the MSB Motorsport Team, Daryl racing the Mazda for possibly the last time at a Hamilton Car Club 1/4 Mile Sprint and then the whole team sanding and preparing the new Nissan for painting. The Mazda did Daryl proud clocking a fastest time of 14.42 secs and 13th Overall of 30. Better than expected especially with the known weaker Gearboxes in the Mazda. The sanding and preparing also went well on the Nissan and hopefully it should get painted "MSB" Yellow this week. Also completed this weekend was the off season strip down and rebuild of Jason's Kart. With the engine back and new tender tyres and kingpin bearings the team got down to and put the Kart back together for Jason's first meeting of the year on the 17th of February.

15th January – The MSB Motorsport has had a good break and relaxing holiday over the Christmas and New Years period and hope all of our supporters had a good break and festive season as well. 2008 brings around another season for the MSB Motorsport team with Jason finishing last season well doing the off season checks 2008 is looking exciting for him. As for Daryl and Scott 2008 has dawned a new horizon for the team, with a new Weapon for the Rally boys. Yes that is right they are upgrading and making it an on par competition with the big boys now with the new MSB Motorsport Nissan Pulsar GTIR, new and improved 2000cc Turbo 4WD, but that also means an end of an era for the MSB Motorsport Mazda 323, so now it is up for sale after a very successful campaign in 2007. So look out for the team’s new and improved cars in 2008, and thank you for your continued support.
